Christina Sanchez
Christina found her love of movement as a child in gymnastics, swimming and rollerskating. It wasn’t until later that she discovered dance and fell in love with an array of movement modalities and techniques to better strengthen a leg injury.
At eighteen, Christina moved to New York City to pursue her passion for dance, later receiving a scholarship at the Alvin Ailey School. It was there that an appreciation for strong training across many disciplines was formed. She was invited to join Ailey’s second company under the direction of Sylvia Waters. She later danced with Ballet Hispanico, Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Bulglisi Dance Theatre under the direction of Jacqulyn Buglisi, Martha Graham principal dancer. Christina was then accepted into the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater where she performed and taught master classes internationally.
Prior to relocating to Santa Barbara she completed a Polestar Pilates training program in New York City. She is currently on the dance faculty in the department of Theater/Dance at UCSB where she teaches Modern technique as well as Pilates and Conditioning to the dance majors. Christina is grateful to continue sharing her love for movement and Pilates with the Grass Roots Pilates community!
