August 2022

“The Body achieves what the Mind believes”

Happy August Grass Roots’ Friends and Family!

We hope this August brings continued rest, sunshine, and joy as we head into another bright and exciting month. Summer isn’t over yet, so there’s still “time to” take advantage of our $15 “BRING A FRIEND” rate per new friend or family member that joins you in a group class “anytime through August 31st”. Let’s share the positive gift of Pilates with the people we love most.

We Would Love Your VOTE for us for BEST OF SANTA BARBARA

On a celebratory note, we’d like to thank those of you that took the time to nominate us for the “BEST OF Santa Barbara” in the SB Independent. We have officially been nominated, and are thrilled to move forward in the voting process. A separate email with details on how to vote will be sent out as soon as we hear more. Thank you again for your support and love in this process!

JOIN US FOR OUR GRAND OPENING SEPT 10th, 3-5pm

Speaking of celebration, our One Year Anniversary Party is coming up soon on Saturday, September 10th from 3-5pm at the GRP studio! Please join us for an afternoon of Pilates demonstrations, raffle prizes, special deals, and of course a collective toast to the first year of Grass Roots Pilates. We will have various health and fitness vendors joining us, and the opportunity to explain some of the equipment you might not know as much about. If you have a friend or family member interested in Pilates, this is the perfect way to introduce them. We hope to see you there if you can make it!

Proud to Highlight out our Amazing Client and Friend, Maggie Lang

Maggie Lang, Certified Massage Therapist, Pilates Instructor, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner has been practicing bodywork for close to 20 years.

Maggie’s method is influenced by an ongoing exploration of the physical body, the human condition, the resolution of trauma and therapeutic modalities rooted in the science of Anatomy and Physiology. In terms of manual therapy for those who study and practice the Pilates method, Maggie hopes to offer touch and private sessions that increase kinesthetic self-awareness, ease of movement and mind body connection. Learning from a multitude of perspectives and teachers is something Maggie believes in whole-heartedly, since we are all on a continuum of learning that’s lifelong and enhanced by various points of view. Grassroots community members are invited to reach out and book a massage that will compliment their Pilates practice.

This month we’d like to highlight our very own superstar, Jennifer Green!

As a contemporary dancer and yoga teacher, Jennifer fell in love with Pilates while studying dance at SUNY in Purchase, New York. In 1996, she started her teacher training at Physical MindInstitute with Cathy Murakami. As a part of that program, Jen studied with Ron Fletcher, an American Pilates Master Teacher, author and former Martha Graham dancer who studied directly under Joseph and Clara Pilates. She then continued her education with advanced apparatus training in the Fletcher Technique with Diane Diefendorfer. Jen was with De Wild Pilates for 11 years and has a devoted following. She is now with Grass Roots Pilates as the talented, creative, insightful, beloved instructor that she is. Some fun facts about Jen- She loves cats and has two of her own that she adores- Lucy and Pam (a male cat she took in when he needed it most). Jen loves good food and refreshment and enjoys sharing her favorites from our local restaurants. Jen will spend her moments of insomnia creating incredibly unique and insightful Pilates classes for all of us to enjoy and be challenged by. We LOVE Jen and are so thankful for her!
