Shelby Caputo

Shelby earned a BFA from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. in Modern Dance Performance and Dance Composition. Shelby has enjoyed a rich dance career performing, teaching, and choreographing nationally with numerous companies and choreographers, eventually landing herself in Santa Barbara. She is currently a resident choreographer for SBCC Dance Company, Nebula Dance Lab, at State Street Ballet’s Professional Track Program and Gustafson Dance, and the recipient of a 2018 Santa Barbara Independent ‘Indy’ award for her choreography. As a young dance student, at the age of 13, Shelby began her Pilates journey under the watchful eye of 2nd generation Pilates teachers (through the lineage of Romana Kryzanowska) Gayla Zukevich, Kathryn Finney and Todd Rosenlieb in Norfolk, Virginia. Shelby carried her Pilates education throughout her dance career, often rehabbing dance injuries through the method of Pilates. She received her first Pilates comprehensive Mat and Reformer certification in 2015 with Chanda Fetter at Core Sport, along with continuing education certifications with Kevin Bowen of Core Dynamics, created by Michele Larsson, as well as Tracey Mallett’s ‘Booty Barre’ certification. Shelby is currently pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree in Nursing, as well as teaching Reformer Pilates, Mat Pilates, myofascial release and stretch classes, as well as barre.
